FALFURRIAS, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested a 39 year-old, United States Citizen after a failed human smuggling attempt.

Last night, agents working at the Falfurrias Border Patrol Checkpoint referred a tractor trailer to the secondary inspection area after a Border Patrol K-9 alerted to the trailer. During the inspection, agents opened the trailer and discovered 34 illegal aliens hidden amongst the cargo. Agents arrested the driver and evaluated each subject as they were escorted from the trailer into the checkpoint. Border Patrol referred the case to Homeland Security Investigations for federal prosecution.

Over the summer, the Rio Grande Valley Sector has reconnected with the Department of Public Safety to impose a lifetime disqualification on Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) privileges from persons convicted of transporting an illegal alien using a motor vehicle. Since August of this year, RGV sector has assisted in the successful disqualification of 59 CDLs from convicted smugglers.

Even with the spread of the COVID-19 virus, human smugglers continue to try these brazen attempts with zero regard for the lives they endanger nor to the health of the citizens of our great nation.  The U.S. Border Patrol agents of the Rio Grande Valley Sector will continue to safeguard the nation and community against these criminal elements.
