Media are invited to view the live stream of the virtual Change of Command of the Canadian Armed Forces ceremony, which will see command transfer from General Jonathan Vance to Vice-Admiral Art McDonald.

When: Thursday, January 14, 2021. Facebook feed and Smudging Ceremony commences at 2:15 p.m. Opening remarks begin at 2:30 p.m.

Where:  The ceremony will be live streamed on the CAF Facebook page and imagery will be uploaded to the CAF Flickr account once available.

Her Excellency the Right Honourable Julie Payette, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada, will preside over the ceremony virtually. The Right Honourable Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada, the Honourable Harjit Sajjan, Minister of National Defence, and the Honourable Lawrence MacAulay, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence will also attend virtually.

Official Rank Note: Vice-Admiral McDonald’s rank during and following the Change of Command ceremony will be Admiral.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions and limitations on gatherings, in-person attendance will not be permitted.

Media will be given the opportunity to conduct an interview over Zoom with Vice-Admiral Art McDonald at 4 p.m.
