Today, Administrator Samantha Power met with the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Afghanistan, Deborah Lyons, to discuss continued coordination on the provision of critical humanitarian assistance for the Afghan people. They discussed the urgent need to address growing food insecurity, potential solutions to the banking and liquidity crisis, and the international community’s overall commitment to closely coordinate on assistance to the Afghan people and support for women, girls and minorities.

Administrator Power extended her appreciation for the United Nation’s tireless dedication to supporting the people of Afghanistan and reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to providing life-saving humanitarian assistance. They both agreed that donor coordination is critical and that the international community must generously support Afghanistan’s immediate humanitarian needs to stave off a worsening humanitarian crisis and maintain support for the Afghan people.
